Cycling the South Island of New Zealand

This winter (2001-2002), I took a trip to New Zealand and bicycled the length of the South Island from Picton to Bluff. I kept a journal of my travels.

Australia 2000

In late March of 2000, Ellen & I went to Australia, where I was attending the 47th IETF Meeting in Adelaide. After the conference, we took a couple of additional weeks and visited Kangaroo Island, off the south coast, Alice Springs, Kings Canyon and Uluru in the center and Sydney. Ellen put together a small photo site of some of our travels.

New Zealand 2003-2006

We moved to New Zealand in 2003 and lived on Waiheke Island for three years. At some point, a selection of our photos and travels will go here.

New Zealand 2007

This winter (early 2007), I took a short trip to New Zealand and traveled by campervan (the Brawny Bongo) and did some daytrip cycling. I kept another journal and more photos.

New Zealand 2008

This was another trip to New Zealand to visit friends and to do another long bicycle tour. As in 2002, I took my bicycle and BOB trailer. I bicycled south from Auckland, intending to get to Wellington and from there who knew... Unfortunately, I crashed out on the East Cape, broke my wrist and came home.

Petroglyphs and Slot Canyons

We bought a 2001 Roadtrek 190 Popular camper van in late 2009. This was our first long trip. We drove it out to Arizona to Grand Canyon and then to a selection the Utah and Colorado National Parks.

The Speedy Journal

Since that first long trip we have taken several more. We've decided to keep a single long-running journal of our travels in "Speedy" Roadtrek.
